Cabinet Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella says the public has condemned the continued protests by certain groups amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing today, Minister Rambukwella said a series of protests and marches were held recently, which were suspended following charges levelled by the public pertaining to the risk it poses to the spread of the coronavirus.
The Minister said when the world is facing the pandemic, 500-1,000 protesters were taking to the streets creating large clusters.
He noted that weddings and funerals are a risk as large crowds gather, adding at such a time, such gatherings must be prevented in order to mitigate the spread of the virus and save lives.
The Minister added as a result, state organisations were granted the opportunity to bring in, only those required for services to function.
