State Minister Kanchana Wijesekera says although he acknowledges that the public has been burdened by the increase in essential commodities including milk power and gas, the government cannot control prices of such items.
Speaking in Parliament, State Minister Wijesekera said they cannot control prices of milk powder, gas and oil since such items are not produced in the country.
He said however they are willing to sign agreements, if there are ways to produce them locally.
State Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said during the current COVID crisis, all factions should support the government to take the country forward.
He said instead of staging protests and supporting demonstrations, the opposition should be supportive of the government’s programme.
