President of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association Gemunu Wijeratne requests passengers to provide the exact change for bus fares to avoid any inconvenience.
Wijeratne speaking to NewsRadio said bus operators are facing many issues including the inability to operate the maximum number of buses, concerns relating to employees, fines imposed by authorities, and repair work.
He added only 50-60% of private buses operate daily.
He added they are working on solving a number of issues and will attempt to operate at least 75% of buses within the next two weeks.
The President of the Association said they are also attempting to implement the pre-paid travel card promptly claiming that many issues can be resolved through this.
Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary of the All Island Private Bus Owners Federation Anjana Priyanjith requested all private bus owners and employees to return the balance of bus fares to passengers.
Priyanjith also instructed conductors to keep sufficient coins required to pay the balance.
He said passengers must not be inconvenienced.
