A group of inmates at the Welikada Prison are currently staging a protest on top of a prison building roof.
The Department of Prisons said the inmates are demanding officials to reduce their sentences or release them on Presidential pardon.
Around 10 inmates are staging the protest.
Although discussions have been held with a Prison Commissioner, inmates have rejected the assurances given by officials.
