The government says it is working to amend the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, No. 28 of 1996.
Speaking during an event to mark the International Day of Disabled Persons at the Ape Gama Auditorium in Pelawatta yesterday, State Minister Shehan Semasinghe said the present administration was committed to protecting individuals with disabilities.
State Minister Semasinghe said the process of amending the act has already been implemented with a National Council with the representation of all parties being established.
He claimed the initial draft has already been prepared with recommendations taken from all parties and are holding discussions on the draft.
