State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has requested heads of state banks to protect the financial status of banks amidst the economic crisis and provide maximum concessions for entrepreneurs who have obtained loans.

The State Minister made this request during a discussion held yesterday (27) with heads of state banks at the Ministry of Finance.

Siyambalapitiya said certain entrepreneurs have been affected by the hike in interest rates enforced by banks to protect liquidity.

The State Minister added that while it is essential to protect the banking system, it is also crucial to protect businessmen.

Therefore, he requested heads of banks to look into ways of granting concessions following guidelines issued by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

Siyambalapitiya also requested state banks to inform the Finance Ministry of the measures taken in this regard.
