The Progressive Women’s Collective says it is questionable that the citizens who are facing severe financial issues due to the increase in prices of essential commodities on a daily basis will receive any concession through the upcoming budget.

Issuing a statement, the Collective said the steep rise in prices of essential items in comparison to last year is due to the government’s failure to manage the economy effectively.

It said taxes imposed on essential items and the production and supply issues have contributed to the rise in prices adding however no system has been introduced through the upcoming budget to control the prices of essential items.

They also say attention must be drawn towards those who lost their jobs due to the pandemic and issues faced by persons infected by the novel coronavirus and those having to quarantine, through the next budget.

The Progressive Women’s Collective has claimed they have observed that through the budget women have not received any concessions and instead several benefits of women have been slashed.

They say by slashing the benefits of women and impacting their financial stability, the present administration is further burdening the women of this country.
