A special awareness programme to support the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) regarding further expansion of the evaluation process of the public sector was held in Parliament recently.
Officials of the Sri Lanka Evaluation Association briefed the committee of the programme during a meeting chaired by COPA Chairman MP Kabir Hashim.
The completion of the National Evaluation draft bill and implementation of the recommendations of the Parliament Select Committee were also discussed.
Facts were presented over the possibility of establishing an Evaluation Unit when establishing a budget office in Parliament.
The need to speed up the preparation of a National Evaluation Policy was also emphasized.
Emphasising the need for a formal national evaluation process, the COPA chairman said the programme is a preliminary discussion and he expects to discuss this more widely in future and take necessary steps expeditiously.
