A group of representatives of private sector trade unions have called on the Minister of Labour in opposition to the move to refrain from including the private sector in the Board that reaches national decisions regarding COVID-19.

The matter was raised during the COVID-19 Labour Task Force meeting held at the subject Ministry, under the patronage of Minister of Labour Nimal Siripala de Silva.

The Labour Minister said the meeting was held with leaders of the trade unions today, based on the recommendation of the Minister of Finance, to obtain the opinions and views of trade unions prior to the country being reopened on the 1st of October.

Minister de Silva said the proposals tabled during the meeting will be presented before the Cabinet and requested the trade union leaders to additionally submit their proposals in writing promptly.
