COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Chairman of the United National Party Wajira Abeywardena says with the steps taken by President Ranil Wickremesinghe, in 2023, prices of all goods will come down and businesses will flourish once again.
Speaking during a media briefing at the UNP headquarters Sirikotha this morning, Parliamentarian Abeywardena said the inflation is already gradually coming down while the economy is stabilizing.
MP Wajira Abeywardena said President Wickremesinghe is in discussion with international partners to solve the economic crisis.
He said the President has also emphasized the importance of working under a common programme.
The UNP Chairman said therefore all factions should unite for the national cause and stabilize the country.
He said those demanding elections should be mindful of the expenses the government must incur to appoint and pay salaries for 8,000 people.
MP Wajira Abeywardena noted that the fuel queues, gas queues and lengthy power cuts have ended but the economy has not recovered altogether.
He said if someone can justify spending nearly Rs.20 billion for an election at this moment, they should take steps to support the families in distress.
The Parliamentarian said Sri Lanka is a bankrupt country at present, and until the country can guarantee to the world that we are able to repay our loans, the government, politicians and people must act responsibly.
He said he is confident in 2023, the prices of goods will come down, businesses will recover and flourish and the economy will be strengthened.
MP Wajira Abeywardena said in order to achieve those target, Sri Lankans must work together.
