COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Prices of tea and other canteen food items will be reduced by 10 percent from midnight, today.
The All Island Canteen Owners’ Association said accordingly, the new price of a milk tea cup will be reduced to Rs.100 while a cup of tea will be Rs.30 from tomorrow.
The Association has confirmed that prices of other food items will also come down by 10 percent from tomorrow.
The price reduction comes as the government has taken steps to decrease the prices of several essential commodities including wheat flour.
The government also reduced the price of LP gas on several occasions recently.
Meanwhile, the All Island Bakery Owners Association yesterday announced that the price of a 450g loaf of bread will be reduced by Rs.10 while the prices of other bakery items will also reduce by Rs.10.
The price revision comes into effect following the reduction of wheat flour prices.
A special discussion was held with the participation of representatives of bakeries yesterday (31).
President of the Association NK Jayawardena said they were informed that a kilogram of wheat flour has been reduced from Rs.320 to Rs.298.
Accordingly, the price of bread and other bakery items was reduced.
The price of a kilogram of wheat flour was reduced to Rs.250 at the Pettah wholesale market.
Spokesperson of the Essential Food Commodities Importers and Traders Association Nihal Seneviratne said the prices may come down further owing to the easing of import restrictions and world market rates.
