Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian V Radhakrishnan says the increase in the prices of several essential food items including milk powder is unbearable, including for the people in the plantation community.

Speaking during a media briefing in Hatton this morning, MP Radhakrishnan said the present administration is misleading the public and increasing prices of goods adding the entire population is affected.

The Parliamentarian said stocks are entering the market but at high prices adding this cannot continue as the government is unable to determine the prices of certain items.

He said the price of rice is decided by an individual in Polonnaruwa, the price of milk powder by the United States while many other items are priced by foreign countries.

MP Radhakrishnan said the government has decided to unload ships containing imports adding however that foreign exchange is required for future imports.

The Parliamentarian said the country is facing a scarcity of foreign currency while the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Ajith Nivard Cabraal continues to print money which results in a further depreciation of the rupee.

MP Radhakrishnan said the plantation community generally consumes wheat flour adding the increase in prices of wheat flour will create further issues.
