President Ranil Wickremesinghe says Sri Lanka should be made the centre of maritime trade in the Indian Ocean region by establishing security and ensuring freedom of navigation in the region.
President Wickremesinghe also stressed the importance of ensuring safety and formulating plans to create a powerful Asia by opening the Indian Ocean region to the world.
The Head of State made these observations while addressing the first graduation ceremony held at the National Defence College in Colombo 03.
The President said that if the country’s security apparatus fails the future of Sri Lanka will be destroyed.
The Head of State noted that the time is apt to evaluate the security threats and the role of Armed Forces in 2030 and beyond, especially considering the geopolitical and world situation.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe added that the Defence College should produce the human resources that would play a leading role in shaping Sri Lanka’s defence apparatus.
The President requested all factions to make a contribution in this endeavour.
