COLOMBO (NewsRadio); President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has promoted a total of 402 officers of the Sri Lanka Army (Regular and Volunteer Force) and 3,348 other ranks of the Army to their respective next ranks in view of the the 14th National War Heroes’ Day.
Sri Lanka Army said the promotions were made on the recommendations of the Ministry of Defence and Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage.
Accordingly, seven Brigadiers to the rank of Major General, 19 Colonels to the rank of Brigadier, 29 Lieutenant Colonels to the rank of Colonel, 33 Majors to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, nine Majors to Temporary Lieutenant Colonel, 115 Captains to the rank of Major, three Captains (QM) to the rank of Major (QM), 97 Lieutenants to the rank of Captain and 90 Second Lieutenants to the rank of Lieutenant (Regular Force & Volunteer Force) have been promoted in the Officer category effective 19th of May 2023.
The Army added, in the category of other ranks, a total of 129 Warrant Officers – II to the rank of Warrant Officer – I, 332 Staff Sergeants to the rank of Warrant Officer – II, 442 Sergeants to the rank of Staff Sergeant, 585 Corporals to the rank of Sergeant, 1028 Lance Corporals to the rank of Corporal and 832 Privates to the rank of Lance Corporal have also been promoted.
Meanwhile, the National War Heroes’ Day alias ‘Victory Day’ that pays tribute to the valour of patriotic war heroes who laid their lives against terrorism and division of the country, will be commemorated today.
The National War Heroes’ commemorative event will be held at the War Heroes’ Monument in Battaramulla later today with the participation of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Ministers, the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, Tri Forces Commanders, next of kin of fallen war heroes and the general public.
