COLOMBO (NewsRadio); President Ranil Wickremesinghe has announced that he is prepared to re-introduce District Development Councils.
This is likely to replace the existing Provincial Councils.
President Wickremesinghe speaking in Parliament made the announcement in response to a request made by former President Maithripala Sirisena.
Former President Sirisena said District Development Councils could play a better role in working with the rural population of the country.
The former President said without additional expenses, the councils can function with the participation both government and opposition members.
In response to the call, President Wickremesinghe said he is prepared to re-introduce District Development Councils.
Former President Maithripala Sirisena then informed the Head of State that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party will fully support the move.
