COLOMBO (NewsRadio); President Ranil Wickremesinghe has issued directives to regulate the entry of people to national parks and other important sites.
President Wickremesinghe has instructed officials not to allow any unauthorised vehicle to enter the national parks and sites including Sinharaja Forest Reserve, Sripada Peak Wilderness Sanctuary, Horton Plains and the Wilpattu National Park.
The President meanwhile had instructed the relevant authorities to formulate regulations restricting any unregistered vehicle entering the Yala National Park.
President Wickremesinghe has also informed officials to compile a project report relating to the introduction of electric vehicles to transport tourists visiting Horton Plains.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe issued the instructions during a meeting with officials of institutions that come under the purview of the Ministry of Environment.
The development comes as over 100 persons had entered the Yala National Park and drove vehicles recklessly earlier this week harassing and harming the wildlife inside the park.
