COLOMBO (NewsRadio); President Ranil Wickremesinghe has assured to protect the Employees’ Provident Fund, which was established for the benefit of the working people.
Issuing a special message to mark the International Workers’ Day, President Wickremesinghe said it is important to recognize the significant role that the working people play in the economic progress of a country.
The President said workers have been a driving force behind Sri Lanka overcoming challenges and leading the nation forward throughout history.
The Head of State in his message noted that last year, the country endured a severe economic collapse and the workers played a crucial role in patiently and courageously supporting the country as Sri Lankans waited to take the difficult initial steps in stabilizing the economy.
President Wickremesinghe noted that as the country celebrates this year’s May Day, everyone should take the opportunity to show the world the pride of the workers of Sri Lanka.
The President stressed that it is crucial that everyone put the country first and not fall prey to narrow political interests at this critical juncture.
The Head of State said the government has always worked to secure the rights of the working public.
President Wickremesinghe said by ensuring their rights and privileges, the government hopes to create a brighter future where the value of labour is recognized.
The Head of State stressed that the government is committed to protecting the Employees’ Provident Fund, which was established for the benefit of the working people.
Despite attempts by some parties to create undue fear regarding the Provident Fund, the President assured that the government will not allow it to be misused.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe invited all working people of Sri Lanka to join hands as the government undertakes a new reformist path of building a prosperous Sri Lanka by 2048.
President Wickremesinghe while congratulating the working people on the International Labour Day where their rights are secured, said the working people are a social force that can exert a stronger influence on the entire economic process of the country, and the public must continue to value and support their contributions.
