Minister of Urban Development and Housing Prasanna Ranatunga says he believes if correct steps are taken, Sri Lanka can completely recover from the economic crisis in about one and a half years.
Minister Ranatunga said he is confident that the electricity crisis and gas and fuel shortages can also be solved.
Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said state sector workers, before demanding their rights should be mindful of the issues faced by the country, at present.
He said without addressing the economic crisis, Sri Lanka cannot move forward.
The Minister said a large number of state institutions, are making heavy losses at present and therefore calls have been made to restructure them.
Minister Ranatunga said personally he is not in favour of expelling workers from their jobs and therefore he emphasised the importance of taking relevant steps to increase the efficiency and the revenue of state-owned establishments.
The Minister also stressed on the importance of modernising certain laws and regulations related to workers.
