Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera has held discussion today (21) with religious leaders and members of civil society.
The Minister taking to Twitter said the groups discussed the electricity tariff revision, tariff formulas, and restructuring of the Ceylon Electricity Board.
Meanwhile, the Minister said the use of renewable energy and introducing rooftop solar power for religious institutions and alternative proposals were also discussed.
Religious leaders have condemned the electricity tariff revision that was imposed in August, that has seen tariffs soar.
Certain Budhhist clergy groups have also called for temples to switch off lights during the upcoming Vap Poya in protest to the move.
They claim that religious institutions are not profit generating entities while the burden of the economic crisis and mismanagement should not be placed on the public.
