The Public Health Inspector’s Union of Sri Lanka says power cuts may affect the quality of COVID vaccines.
Speaking to media Chairman of the Union Upul Rohana said power cuts are imposed for several hours across the island daily due to the prevailing power crisis.
He noted generator facilities are limited at a majority of PHI offices while the facility isn’t operational in most offices.
Rohana said therefore issues have arisen regarding the storage of vaccines.
He noted vaccines including Pfizer must be stored in cool temperatures adding therefore health authorities and the government must direct attention towards storing vaccines in the right conditions.
Upul Rohana warned they will be unable to provide quality vaccines to the public if health officials, the Ceylon Electricity Board and relevant authorities fail to consider the conditions in which vaccines are stored when imposing power cuts.
