Police Sergeant BA Buddhika Kumara, who thwarted a robbery at a bank in Tambuttegama last week, has been promoted to the rank of Sub Police Inspector.
The Police Headquarters informed of his promotion.
The Policeman successfully foiled a robbery in Tambuttegama on the 26th of September.
The incident was reported when a businessman at the Tambuttegama Economic Centre attempted to deposit Rs.22.3 million at a private bank.
Two masked individuals had attempted to rob the businessman at the time.
Sergeant DAC Buddhika Kumara, attached to the Tambuttegama Police Station, had witnessed the incident and blocked the robbers when they attempted to flee the scene after stealing the money that was in two bags.
The robbers had then hurled chilli powder at the Policeman.
However, the Sergeant, who was not affected by the chilli powder, claimed that the suspects had fired a gun in their possession which failed to activate.
The public in the area who witnessed the Policeman’s bravery had assisted the Sergeant in arresting the duo.
Investigations revealed that one suspect was employed as a private security officer at the bank where the businessman was due to deposit the money.
