COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Inspector General of Police has instructed Police stations and officers to accept complaints and investigate incidents of forceful seizure of vehicles by leasing companies.
The directive comes after allegations that certain police stations reject the complaints made by owners of vehicles against leasing or financial companies who attempt to seize vehicles or equipment over unpaid loan installments.
A new circular has been issued by the IGP in this regard.
According to the circular by the Inspector General of Police, if an owner of the vehicle objects to the acquisition of a vehicle by leasing companies and finance companies, such companies should file a case before the District Court and take legal steps to acquire the vehicle.
Concerns have been raised by several corners over the continuous forceful seizure of vehicles by leasing companies from individuals who have defaulted on the relevant payments, as well as the alleged involvement of thugs who have threatened vehicle owners over unpaid loan installments.
