Police say special attention will be directed towards persons violating inter-provincial travel restrictions from today.
Speaking to NewsRadio, Police Media Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said complaints have been lodged regarding individuals travelling up to provincial borders via bus and walking across the border to enter another province and continue their journey in another bus.
The Senior DIG said if such attempts are made the owner, driver and conductor of the relevant bus will be arrested and the bus will be seized.
He noted therefore special Police teams and checkpoints have been deployed at the borders of all provinces, to strictly enforce inter-provincial travel restrictions.
He added public transport services across provinces have also been suspended.
The Senior DIG requested all factions to refrain from travelling across provinces.
He stressed special roadblocks have been set up to cover all main roads, by-roads and bridges as well, especially surrounding the Western Province.
He noted persons who attempt to travel across provincial borders by other means will be arrested, and their vehicles seized.
