COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Kiribathgoda Police has commenced an investigation over an alleged ragging incident within the University of Kelaniya premises.
The Police Media Division said a second year student of the University lodged a complaint with Police last evening over a ragging incident.
The student in his complaint had stated that he was stopped by a group of senior students while he was going to the University groups for sports practices after completing his lectures at around 3pm yesterday.
According to the complainant, senior students were unhappy with his appearance and had instructed him to trim his hair and facial hair.
He had also being instructed not to wear a wrist watch and wear only slippers instead of shoes to the University.
Since the second year student had opposed to it, senior students have escorted him to the University canteen.
Police said according to the complaint, three senior students had punched the second year student on his face and body.
The complainant had stated that there were seven students involved in the incident although he is unaware of their names.
He has informed Police that he can however identified the senior students through their appearance.
Meanwhile, Police has taken steps to direct the assaulted student before the judicial medical officer of the Ragama Hospital.
The Kiribathgoda Police has launched an investigation to arrest those involved in the incident.
