Police have launched investigations into a voice clip circulating on social media believed to be of Virologist and Pathologist Prof. Malik Peiris, who is based in Hong Kong.
Police Media Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said investigations were launched based on a complaint lodged by Prof. Peiris.
The Senior DIG said the fake voice clip has been produced to depict the coronavirus situation in the country, detailing steps taken by health units to mitigate the virus.
He said an investigation has been launched while efforts are underway to identify and arrest those responsible for the production of the clip.
