Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena has requested all parties on behalf of the government and Parliament to actively work for the development of all sectors, prioritising food security and rural economic revival.
The Premier expressed his views during the first Parliament session of 2023 this morning (5).
The Prime Minister said strategies must be developed to strengthen the local economy that affect people’s livelihoods.
Premier Gunawardena added the government also seeks the support of all Members of Parliament to further advance Parliamentary democracy as Sri Lanka marks the 75th year of independence in 2023.
Prime Minister Gunawardena said the government including the President, has taken many steps towards bettering economic, social, judicial and international relations, and has strengthened democracy by allowing criticism and worked towards transforming 2023 to a year where challenges can be overcome amidst the many challenges.
He noted that the government also took steps to strengthen the Parliamentary Committee system and called for the support of all parties in carrying forward the work of the National Council established on an all-party consensus.
