COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today rejected a private plaint filed against former Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Ajith Nivard Cabraal over the alleged misappropriation of government funds.

The plaint was filed against Ajith Nivard Cabraal for allegedly misusing state funds during his tenure as the Governor of the Central Bank.

Considering the preliminary objections filed by attorneys representing Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela dismissed the case.

Issuing the ruling, the Magistrate said adequate information have not been presented by the complainant to charge the former CBSL Governor.

The complainant had alleged that during his tenure as the Central Bank Governor in 2014, Ajith Nivard Cabraal had paid a sum of USD 6.5 Million to a member of the IS terror group without the approval of the Cabinet.

He was also accused of being involved in many incidents of financial fraud.
