COLOMBO (NewsRadio): The Public Health Inspectors’ Union says the campaign carried out by the teacher trade unions is setting a wrong example for the public.
The PHI Union said no matter how justifiable the trade union struggle is under the Trade Union Ordinance and the country’s constitution; it cannot be agreed under quarantine regulations.
The Chairman of the Union Upul Rohana accordingly called for the trade unions to pay close attention to the spread of the novel coronavirus while carrying out their protest campaigns.
Rohana said teacher trade unions were staging protests in Colombo with a large number of participants but now have expanded the demonstrations in other major cities of the country. He called for authorities to expedite solving the issues of the teachers.
The Chairman of the PHI Union said the individuals involved in protests are at risk of contracting the coronavirus and could likely be exposed to the Delta variant.
He added the public is also now disregarding quarantine regulations and is engaging in their day to day activities as they witness these protests conducted by the trade unions.
