COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Permission has been granted to retain junior Sri Lanka Railway employees who were due to retire yesterday, on contract basis, if necessary.
The Secretary to the President has granted permission to the move, based on service requirement.
The Secretary to the President, Saman Ekanayake has granted written permission to the General Manager of Sri Lanka Railways.
Several requests had been made by various railway unions to retain employees who were due to retire yesterday.
They were of the view that some stations will not be able to function, if they do not have the services of junior workers.
Accordingly, the General Manager has now been given permission to retain some employees on contract basis.
