COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Department of Immigration and Emigration has announced that passport applications will be accepted online under a new system from June.
Accordingly, Controller-General of Immigration and Emigration Harsha Ilukpitiya said following the submission of documents, steps will be taken to post the passports within three days.
The Controller-General noted that they have already identified 50 Divisional Secretariats where passport applicants will be able to provide their fingerprints.
He said fingerprint machines have already been fixed while they have also provided necessary training for officers.
Controller-General Harsha Ilukpitiya noted that applicants will be able make the necessary payments online or by visiting any Bank of Ceylon branch.
The new system is scheduled to commence on the 1st of June.
