COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Parliament today voted in favour of the agreement reached by the government pertaining to the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program.
Speaker of House Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced that 120 Members of Parliament voted in favour of the proposal while 25 MPs voted against it.
The Speaker said accordingly the Sri Lanka Parliament has adopted the proposal.
The vote was taken after the agreement reached by the government pertaining to the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program was debated for three days in Parliament.
The Parliamentary debate on the agreement reached with the IMF commenced on Wednesday following the special statement by President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Wednesday.
Previously the Cabinet of Ministers granted approval to the proposal of President Ranil Wickremesinghe to obtain the stance of all Members of Parliament on the main policy measures of the Extended Fund Facility agreement with the International Monetary Fund.
The agreement reached with the IMF and other documents related to the Extended Fund Facility agreement were tabled in Parliament on the 22nd of March.
