The proposed Social Security Contribution Levy Bill is scheduled to be debated in Parliament today (08).
Parliament is due to convene at 9.30am.
Although the Social Security Contribution Levy Bill was scheduled to be passed without a debate in Parliament on Tuesday (06), a decision was taken to hold a debate on the Bill today after Members of Parliament requested for a debate on the matter.
On Tuesday, Parliamentarians Anura Kumara Dissanayaka and Harsha de Silva requested the Speaker of House to hold a debate considering the amendments submitted for the said Bill.
The Committee on Parliamentary Business previously had decided to pass the Social Security Contribution Levy Bill on Tuesday without debate in Parliament.
The 2022 Budget introduced the Social Security Contribution Levy Bill as a measure to raise government revenue and rebuild the economy hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.
This tax is levied at the rate of 2.5 percent upon the annual turnover is Rs. 120 million on taxable turnover of importers, manufacturers, service providers and wholesalers and retailers.
