COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Ministry of Agriculture has announced that the parachute system will be used to cultivate paddy on 13,000 acres during the 2023/24 season.

The Ministry noted that the Department of Agrarian Development will provide free discs for paddy planting to all farmers.

The measure has been introduced under the ten-year plan to promote rice cultivation in the country.

The Agriculture Ministry said that the introduction of new rice cultivation techniques such as chemical fertilizers along with high quality seeds and the implementation of the parachute system will increase the rice yield.

The Ministry has assured to provide all necessary support to increase the yield of farmers.

According to the Agriculture Ministry, plans are underway to increase the rice yield per hectare to 4.5MT within next three years, to 5.2MT in five years and then to 5.5MT in 10 years.

The Ministry of Agriculture has announced that the paddy yield per hectare during the 2022/23 season was 3.1MT.

With the reintroduction of chemical fertilizer and also new techniques, the government is planning to increase the yield of farmers.
