The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna says the government’s aim in relation to mitigating the COVID-19 pandemic is vaccinations and acquainting the public with a pre-COVID daily social pattern.
Speaking during a media briefing at the party headquarters, Minister Rohitha Abegunawardhana said the coronavirus pandemic status must be assessed in comparison to the international community.
Minister Abegunawardhana said each coronavirus wave is different to another.
The Minister said India faced an unfortunate situation adding that Kerala is now recording large numbers of COVID-patients even though it recorded smaller figures initially.
He said Sri Lanka too faced a similar situation.
The Minister on a separate note criticised individuals proposing the closure of factories during quarantine curfew.
Minister Abegunawardhana questioned what motive they had behind such requests.
He said such groups are calling for factories to be closed, in order to disrupt the export process, which will in turn result in the loss of foreign exchange which hinders the purchase of crude oil and medicines.
The Minister said all such requests are politically motivated.
