Election monitoring body the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections has established a Special Election Complaints Unit at the PAFFREL head office focused on the Local Government Election.
The PAFFREL issuing a statement said, the organisation is dedicated to secure the right to vote of the people through free and fair elections and is closely monitoring and making necessary interventions regarding the violation of election laws such as the misuse of state property and power, bribing voters, distribution of goods, particularly the use of resources belonging to local government bodies for election campaign and promotion of candidates, making new appointments, transferring or promoting staff during the election time.
Accordingly, several contact details have been released by the PAFFREL for the public to lodge complaints related to election law violations.

A special number has been allocated at the unit enabling women candidates to submit complaints, 075-8989120 (Hotline/WhatsApp), regarding any issues they may encounter while conducting campaign activities.
The Executive Director of PAFFREL Rohana Hettiarachchi said any complaint on acts of misdemeanour that may affect members of a party or candidates of another party or neighbours and voters in a district, local government body or division in connection with the local government polls, can be referred to the Special Election Complaints Unit.
PAFFREL said the Special Election Complaint Unit consists of an experienced panel of lawyers, and complaints will be referred to the relevant parties for prompt action and to seek prompt solutions.
Complaints can be submitted to the special unit at any time of the day.
Hettiarachchi urged the public not to hesitate in submitting complaints in order to ensure a free and fair election.
