Over 6,000 persons have been affected by flooding in the Matara district.

COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Over 6,000 persons have been affected by flooding in the Matara district.

The Disaster Management Centre said 6,390 individuals from 1,697 families in Matara are affected by the inclement weather.

According to the DMC, an individual has also been reported missing while another has been injured in weather-related incidents.

Meanwhile, an house has been destroyed while 39 houses have been damaged due to bad weather.

Kotapola and Athuraliya are the worst affected divisions in the past few days due to flooding.

Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology predicts several spells of showers in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts today.

The Met Department said mainly fair weather will prevail elsewhere.

Meanwhile, fairly strong winds of about 30-40kmph can be expected at times over the Northern, North-Central and Eastern provinces.
