Opposition MPs say the government has presented a set of empty promises without a stringent programme and the public must be prepared to face even more hardship next year.

Speaking at the Parliamentary Complex, Parliamentarian Hesha Withanage said the 2022 Budget shows that the people will have to take a stand to reach a decision regarding the country.

MP Withanage said it has not provided relief to the public, and that the people must be prepared to face more hardships.

MP Nalin Bandara Jayamaha said the Budget presented yesterday shows that the country has gone bankrupt over the past two years, under the present government, and they have understood it.

MP Jayamaha claimed the government is hoping to operate by charging unusual taxes from the public and businessmen, and is attempting to conceal the reality of the Budget by making false claims.

He added solutions have not been provided for the real issues, including the crisis in the farming industry.

MP Chaminda Wijesiri noted government MPs were hopeful for the 2022 Budget, and the public is requesting the ability to have two or three proper meals a day.

He added instead that the government presented a Budget that looks good on the outside, and yet doesn’t seem favourable to the country or the people in reality.

Parliamentarian Manusha Nanayakkara said several concepts were introduced through the 2022 Budget adding the opposition is in favour of implementing these concepts.

He said however they are merely dreams.

MP Nanayakkara claimed it is the first Budget presented by Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa, and the last one of the present government
