The opposition accuses the government of selling profit-making state entities.

Commenting on the agreement to transfer of 40% of the Kerawalapitiya Yugadanavi Power Plant to an American firm, Parliamentarian JC Alawathuwala said the Yugadanavi Power Plant is a profit-making institution.

MP Alawathuwala said there were two matters behind the agreement, one is creating a monopoly on the production of gas in Sri Lanka.

The Parliamentarian said there was no transparency to the agreement adding when questioned in Parliament, the Minister of Power Gamini Lokuge claimed he had no knowledge of the deal.

The MP said the subject Minister along with the rest of the Cabinet of Ministers came to know of the deal when the Cabinet Paper was tabled that morning.

MP Alawathuwala said after the agreement was signed at midnight, Minister Namal Rajapaksa claimed it was signed according to American time.

He said the fact that the agreement was signed according to US time proved that the agreement was one-sided and did not benefit the country.
