Minister Keheliya Rambukwella says various views and opinions circulating on social media lead to numerous concerns.

Addressing the weekly Cabinet media briefing, the Minister said a Cabinet Paper will be tabled pertaining to the use of social media.

The Minister was responding to questions posed by journalists over various posts circulating on social media regarding the death of the 16-year-old girl while employed at the residence of Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen.

The Minister said many sectors have concerns related to social media use.

He noted the Ministries of Justice and Mass Media together, are discussing the legal framework of social media, adding that a Cabinet Paper in this regard will be issued in two weeks.

Minister Rambukwella stated that social media users in various instances have found individuals guilty or have acquitted them even before Court verdicts are issued.

While claiming that this is becoming the way of the world, the Minister said a final draft related to a framework for social media will be tabled in Parliament.
