COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Ministry of Agriculture says the Paddy Marketing Board is in possession of 7,070MT of paddy.
The Agriculture Ministry said therefore there is no threat of a shortage of rice in the country in future.
The Ministry said considering the price fluctuations of rice in the market, it will take steps to release additional rice stocks, if need arises.
The Ministry added owing to the importation of rice and the receipt of rice stocks from various nations, the increase in the price of rice in the market has been controlled.
Accordingly, there are stocks of rice in warehouses operated by the Food Commissioner’s Department, including 1,000MT of rice donated by Myanmar.
Additionally, between 5,000 and 10,000 MT of essential food items received under the World Food Program are also reported to be in warehouses run by the Food Commissioner’s Department.
