The Ministry of Health says there is no need to implement the bio-secure bubble concept for tourists arriving in the country at present.
Speaking during a media briefing at the Health Promotion Bureau, Deputy Director General of Health Services Specialist Dr. Hemantha Herath said a bio-secure bubble only needs to be created for tourists who arrive in the country outside of the usual testing procedure and those who arrive for special requirements.
Dr. Hemantha Herath said the virus has spread to all parts of the country adding the Omicron variant is also spreading in the country.
He said similar to the general public, tourists must also follow health guidelines to protect themselves and ensure they don’t spread the virus to others. He added the public must also follow health guidelines for the same reasons.
Dr. Herath said a majority of tourists arriving in the country have been vaccinated adding those who haven’t obtained the vaccine need to follow quarantine procedure when entering the country.
He stated all tourists must also obtain a PCR test within 72 hours prior to their departure.
Dr. Hemantha Herath said therefore tourists can continue activities in line with the existing health guidelines.
