The opposition says the present government has failed to even provide powdered milk to the people without any shortages at a time when 18.3 percent of the country’s children are suffering due to malnutrition.
Speaking in Parliament during the adjournment debate on the financial status of the country in 2021, Parliamentarian Kavinda Jayawardena said the government is working to please large-scale companies that supply essential commodities at present.
He said the government has no vision or a plan to address the financial crisis.
MP Jayawardena said the public is in long queues due to shortages and is willing to even pay high prices.
He said the milk powder, gas and cement companies are controlling the government and prices of essential commodities.
He said it is unfortunate that the government is being controlled by private entities.
MP Kavinda Jayawardena noted that now the government has removed control prices of several goods, private companies will determine the prices of essential commodities.
