The condition imposed on consumers, to purchase other items when purchasing essential goods from Sathosa, has been removed with effect from today.
Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardana speaking at a media briefing today said the condition which was in place when purchasing essentials such as sugar and rice has accordingly been lifted.
The Minister said consumers can now purchase any number of goods adding that he in no way violated the Consumer Affairs Authority Act.
Minister Gunawardana said the government has the right to request the public to make certain purchases in a particular manner.
He however claimed that this measure was amended due to charges levelled by the public.
