COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Sri Lanka Transport Board says the SLTB buses are functioning according to the regular timetable today.

SLTB Chairman Lalith De Alwis confirmed that all 107 depots are operating according to the regular timetable.

He said out of the eight trade unions, members of seven unions are fully cooperative, excluding the JVP Union.

A number of trade unions are on strike today against the recent tax hike by the government.

Unions staged strikes and demonstrations since Monday demanding the government to reverse the recent tax revision among others.

Unions yesterday announced that since they have not received favorable responses from authorities, they will stage a mass strike today.

Accordingly, a number of trade unions in the health, education, electricity, postal, ports and banking sectors have launched a one-day strike.
