The government claims no financial fraud had taken place during the importation of a stock of nano nitrogen liquid fertiliser from India.
Speaking during the weekly Cabinet media briefing, Co-Cabinet Spokesman Minister Ramesh Pathirana refuted media reports that the stock of fertiliser had been imported by paying a large sum of commission.
However, journalists questioned Minister Pathirana as to why Sri Lanka paid Rs.5,230 for a bottle of fertiliser, which is an excess of Rs.3,927 since a bottle is being sold for Rs.1,302 in the India market.
In response, the Minister stressed that no discrepancies have been reported during the purchase and importation of the said stock.
He said several complaints however have been filed over the incident.
Minister Ramesh Pathirana noted that the subject Minister has also made a statement regarding the matter and they are conducting affairs in a transparent manner.
He assured all details pertaining to the incident will be revealed to the country in future.
