The government says it has no intention of forcefully slashing salaries of public or private sector workers amidst the COVID-19 crisis.

Speaking during the weekly Cabinet media briefing in Colombo today, Cabinet spokesman Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said although a request was made by a Minister, no proposals in this regard have been submitted.

Minister Alahapperuma said therefore he vehemently rejects media reports that had claimed that the government has decided to slash salaries of public and private sector workers and create a fund to deal with the COVID crisis.
