Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera says a decision has not been reached to remove the QR code system from next month.
The Minister taking to Twitter refuted claims made in this regard by certain media and on social media.
Minister Wijesekera said the QR system will continue until fuel requirements can be fulfilled.
The National Fuel Pass QR Code system was officially rolled out in August following the fuel shortages owing to the lack of dollar reserves in the country to purchase fuel.
Under the QR Code system individuals can obtain the entire fuel quote available for the week or obtain the quota in stages during the course of the week.
All filling stations at present dispense fuel only according to the QR system and check the QR code vehicle number on the device with the number plate of the vehicle to verify details.
