The government has announced that no decision has been taken to impose an island-wide lockdown despite the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus in the country.
State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Channa Jayasumana said however existing restrictions will be tightened to prevent the spread of the virus.
Speaking to media after attending a meeting of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, State Minister Jayasumana said a number of restrictions will be imposed shortly.
He said several proposals were submitted at the Task Force meeting to contain the spread.
State Minister Jayasumana noted that decisions were taken after considering the proposals submitted by health authorities.
Meanwhile, the Head of National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak, Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva is expected to make an announcement regarding new restrictions later today.
