State Minister of Rural and Ayurvedic Hospitals Development Sisira Jayakody says coronavirus patients being treated at Ayurveda hospitals, have not succumbed to the coronavirus.
The State Minister today revealed in Parliament that 12 Ayurveda hospitals are currently being used as COVID-19 treatment centres while another five hospitals will be added as treatment centres.
The State Minister said 4,603 COVID-19 positive patients are currently at Ayurvedic hospitals, adding that they are provided indigenous remedies.
He noted that a large number of Sri Lanka are dependent on indigenous therapies for various illnesses.
Parliamentarian Tissa Vitharana joining the debate said adequate public awareness has not been generated pertaining to the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic.
MP Vitharana said the government must duly educate the public from village levels, by forming committees together with health officials.
He noted that Sri Lanka is at a critical juncture.
The Parliamentarian stated that vaccinations against the coronavirus alone will not suffice, adding that good health practices must be instilled in all citizens
