The National Movement for Consumer Rights Protection has written to Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa to reduce fuel prices as crude oil prices in the world market have significantly reduced.
Chairman of the Movement Ranjith Vithanage said a barrel of crude oil that was selling at USD 73 on the 30th of July, had dropped to USD 62 as of Friday.
Vithanage said as local fuel prices were increased on the basis of prices in the world market, fuel prices should now be decreased.
He stated that when fuel prices were increased on the 11th of July, a barrel of crude oil was selling at USD 70.91.
He noted that according to predictions crude oil prices will remain stagnant at the current price until February 2020 and therefore urged the Finance Minister to grant this benefit to the public.
